planning

oh wow, i don't know where to begin. i'm finding sources that say it takes anywhere from 12 weeks to 2 years to train for a marathon. i think i'm looking at closer to 2 years, because i'm totally new to this and also because i don't want to go through the lottery selection. only about 50% of the applicants for the nyc marathon are selected every year, but if you run 9 qualifying races in the previous year with the new york road runners club, you'll have guaranteed entry.

a general plan
now until the end of 2006: run 3-4 times a week
jan-dec 2007: run 9 qualifiying races in the nyrr club
jan-nov 2008: serious training
november 2, 2008: nyc marathon

day 3: 2.0 mi

start!

i've always wanted to run a marathon. it's been on my list of things to do for a while now.

so...the ING new york city marathon, november 2008. run, walk, crawl, or slither across the finish line...i don't care. i'd just like to finish. i have no idea what i'm getting myself into but this should be cool. and i suppose the purpose of this blog is so i can be held accountable, and less likely to quit if i know people are reading this.

i guess i officially started training yesterday. even made an excel spreadsheet to record running mileage (dork?)

day 1: 3.5 miles
day 2: 2.0 miles, plus some biking
